D&B Eco-Mermaids at the CWSCs

We had a brilliant time at the biennial Cold Water Swim Championships (CWSCs) at the end of January. We were delighted to enter a brilliant team of Eco-Mermaids in the relay race and.. yes whilst we may have come last timing-wise, we were very proud to come first in the style awards!

Our team included outdoor swimmer and swim writer Ella Foote, retired British surfing professional Sophie Hellyer and Deakin and Blue customer and competition winner Rowan Clarke, alongside our Founder Rosie’s brother Jack who agreed to participate in the race before Rosie mentioned the water would be unheated… (sibling love).

The team wore Deakin and Blue Signature Swimsuits made of ECONYL® - a 100% regenerated yarn made of post-consumer waste, and couture head pieces made from recycled fishing nets and beach waste made by celebrated waste-fibre artist, TedX Speaker & #2MinuteBeachClean advocate Kittie Kipper. Each member of the team swam 30m relay in the 3 degree water to celebrate beauty and body brilliance at any shape, size and age.

Talking about the team’s achievement on the day, Rosie said:

“Too often, especially in January, we talk about our bodies in relation to their size, how they look and what they weigh according to the scales. Instead at Deakin and Blue we celebrate what our bodies can do, how they move and how they feel. And, in doing this, we help women to remember how incredible and beautiful their bodies are – at every shape, size and age.”

Here are a selection of our favourite photos from the day!
